Sarah and Brian welcome you to Sumatra Thomas Leaf Monkey.


Come and discover our guest house in the heart of the jungle in Bukit Lawang village. Bukit lawang is situated in the west side of north Sumatera province and on the edge of the Gunung Leuser National Park. "Bukit lawang" means "the hill which is the gateway to the mountain".


If you want to live a total immersion in the rainforest, we offer three charming bungalows for rent in a flowery and lush garden. Sumatra Thomas Leaf Monkey guest house is located a few minutes walk from the bustling center of Bukit lawang and the entrance to Gunung Leuser National Park. You will be able to enjoy the surrounding calm and let yourself be lulled by the sound of nature. We will be happy to show you the place, the secrets of nature and our love of the local culture.


Explore our guesthouse

Our bungalows are built with local wood and natural materials, while respecting nature. Our bungalows are equipped with fans, comfortable beds and an adjoining private bathroom.

Cuisine

We offer a catering service from morning to evening with delicious local dishes whose recipes are passed down from generation to generation. Taste Indonesian specialties such as Nasi Goreng, Mie Goreng or Tempe Sambal and discover all the flavors of the country. Our formulas include breakfast with a drink and a dish.

Activities

We offer different activities for your stay in bukit lawang.

The tropical rainforest of Mt. Leuser National Park has many interesting option for place to camp in the jungle for one day or longer. (Minimum 3 persons, Maximum 8 persons)


1. After visiting orang-utan, trek through the jungle for 3 hours to get back to your accomodation

2. One day jungle trekking

3. Two days jungle trekking

4. Three days jungle trekking

5. Four days jungle trekking

6. Six days jungle trekking

If you are interested, make a combination with a traditional tube rafting back to bukit lawang.

Those jungle trekking packages include meal, tent (mattress, blanket and pillow), guide fee and permit into the jungle.


We also organize an activity allowing you to create step by step the traditional medical oil Karonis with many ingredients.


Visit Bat cave : This cave is 2 km south of bukit lawang or 25 minutes walk through a rubber plantation. There is short climbing before the entrance to the cave. Take advantage of a special moment to discover the beauty of this cave and the bats that inhabit it.


Brian is a member of the Indonesian Tourist Guide Association and will love to make you discover his beloved forest and wildlife.

When you arrived at Medan Airport, you have two options :


1- Transport by private car from Medan KNO Airport to Bukit Lawang, upon reservation. (Approximately 3 hours)


2- By public transport. Take the ALS bus from Kualanamu to Binjai, then an orange colored minibus to Bukit Lawang. For the bus change in Binjai, go to the ALS bus terminal. (Approximately 5 hours)
